No trip to Liverpool—or anywhere in the UK, for that matter—is complete without a proper pub crawl!
We began at the Baltic Fleet, a nautical-themed pub a stone's throw from the Albert Dock. This joint is a member of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, which "promotes good-quality real ale and pubs, as well as acting as the consumer's champion in relation to the UK and European beer and drinks industry."
There were certainly good-quality real ales here! Located on Wapping Road, the Baltic has its own brewery in the basement. I had a Wapping Brewery Blonde Wheat Beer that was very fresh and very tasty!
Unlike New York, Liverpool pubs allow smoking (although that will end July 1st, 2007), but there was a cozy "snug" at the round end of the building for non-smokers. A couple of packages of nuts and some McCoy's Potato Crisps and we were in business.
