A 20-minute stroll through the Liverpool Docks and its Chinatown district brought us to a neighborhood containing the ginormous Anglican Cathedral, John Lennon's and Stu Sutcliffe's old art school, and Paul McCartney's & George Harrison's former high school, now the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), an institute co-founded by Sir Paulie and a place where my mate, Chris, used to teach.
A block away on a little side street, looking slightly out of place on its artsy, upscale street, is Ye Cracke, an ancient pub where The Beatles used to raise a pint before they were famous.
Just a simple divey joint with a garden out back to drink in and little tables with copper tops. I had something Chris ordered. It wasn't bad.
Beats me about the name... Is it "a little hole in the wall?" Or maybe it comes from the Irish word, craic, which means a rollicking good conversation.
