After Cask, we stumbled across the street (literally!) for some Kosher Deli at 2nd Ave Deli. This was accompanied by—of course—more beer. David and I opted for the Brooklyn Ale, Dan went for the Lager. See if you can spot the beer drinkers from the photos at right.

We convinced ourselves that we saw Madonna waiting for takeout. Despite a grilling of the third degree, the staff consistently denied this. No matter, they make a mean pastrami sandwich.

After we parted ways, Kevin and I went for one last pop at the Campbell Apartment. This bar, hidden in the upper floors of Grand Central Terminal, is a throwback to the days of robber barons and speakeasies. John Campbell, who served on the New York Central's Board of Directors, leased this 3500 sqft. space from Willy K. Vanderbilt in 1923 as a private office by day and a place to entertain his rich and fashioable friends by night. Great atmosphere, including a 25-foot high painted ceiling that looks like it was made of inlaid wood, and a faux fireplace with a safe. W

Last time I was here, I had a very hard time getting in despite the fact that I was dressed up in all black and was wearing a sportcoat; my shirt lacked a collar, you see. This time, however, Kevin's collarless t-shirt didn't even raise an eyebrow (although they drew the line at his baseball cap). It's amazing what a difference a recession can make. Good to know my money is good once again. I soaked in the ambience with a delicious and seriously overpriced Talisker 10 before catching the 11:06 back home.

Amazing what a little tongue will do!
